Bureau Chief - Alexandra

Be part of a team that is passionate about making a difference. Allied Press is seeking a versatile team leader in our Alexandra office to guide and support our expanded reporting team. This is an exciting time to be working for this leading independent New Zealand media company.

Allied Press Limited is the largest independently owned media company in New Zealand.  Employing over 1,100 staff and contributors across its 15 South Island locations. We operate across multiple media platforms (print, on-line, digital) delivering news, information and entertainment through our various regional and city publications, including the well read ‘The News Central Otago’ and the Otago Daily Times.

Reporting to the editors of The News Central Otago(Regional Editor) and the Otago Daily Times (Editor in Chief), this role plays a key role in the growth and strengthening of the weekly Central Otago paper. The position involves leading the editorial team in Alexandra and providing daily regional news for the Otago Daily Times.

Some of the key accountabilities include:

·                      Providing staff support and performance management

·                      Sourcing, writing and delegating stories

·                      Meeting weekly production deadlines for The News Central Otago and daily news deadlines for the Otago Daily Times

·                      Point of contact for the local community and Allied Press staff

·                      Maintaining online presence

In addition to your interest in supporting your team to succeed, you will have:

·                      Video, photography and website skills

·                      Commitment to accuracy and quality

·                      Full NZ driver licence

Sub-editing and layout skills would be an advantage but are not essential.

This is a full time, permanent position based in Alexandra.  Relocation assistance would be considered for the right candidate.  As well as working alongside professional colleagues throughout the South Island, there are development opportunities and an opportunity to take ownership of a successful and well supported local newspaper.
