Video Journalist – Christchurch – Fixed Term

Star Media is seeking an ambitious and adaptable videographer with proven reporting skills. This is a fixed term role for 1 year.

Star Media is a division of Allied Press Limited, which employs over 450 people on a permanent basis across our 15 sites in the South Island.  We operate across multiple media platforms (print, online, digital) delivering news, information and entertainment through our various regional and city publications.

You’ll be working from our newsroom in Addington, Christchurch, producing entertaining and informative video content for Star News and its associated regional titles, along with The South Today regional news bulletin.

Your major roles are shooting, scripting, voicing, and editing video stories for online and The South Today, so you’ll have a track record of visual journalism and/or a recognised qualification.  Deadlines can often be tight, and you must demonstrate a high level of energy, a passion for news, and have the ability to produce compelling and accurate stories for our viewers, covering the Canterbury area.

Candidates should ideally have experience in both Videography as well as stills photography.  Knowledge of Adobe Premiere Elements or similar editing software is also an advantage.

You’ll be working in conjunction with Star Media reporters and reporter to the Director of Video News, based in Dunedin.  However the ability to work under your own initiative and take instruction is also very important, with the job requiring regular driving to cover a diverse territory.  A clean full drivers licence is essential.

This role includes some evening and weekend work.
