Line Producer-Reporter - Dunedin (fixed term)

Allied Press Dunedin needs an enthusiastic and experienced line producer and digital producer/reporter, with proven digital editing and organisational skills.

You’ll be working from the Video Hub inside our bustling Dunedin ODT newsroom, turning around engaging video content for the Otago Daily Times, and Allied Press’ regional publications in Otago and Southland.

Your major roles are working in conjunction with the Director of Video News to assist in compiling the weeknightly news bulletin The South Today, and weekly compilation show Southern Newsweek, which are broadcast locally on Channel 39 TV and online.

Daily responsibilities include assisting in assembling a daily bulletin, deciding on story priorities, liaising with regional reporters and giving constructive feedback, compiling scripts, liaising with the TV bulletin director and studio crew, and assisting with compiling statistics for management and NZ on Air.

The Line Producer will also act as the backup to the Director of Video News during their absence, including attending some editorial meetings, subbing news scripts, and liaising with senior editorial staff.

You’ll also be involved in processing, scripting, voicing, and editing video content provided by Allied Press’ regional reporters and Dunedin photographers, to create video clips which complement online/print stories, and make up the weeknightly news bulletin The South Today.

A track record of visual journalism and/or a recognised qualification is required, and experience with Adobe Premiere Elements or similar editing software is essential.  Strong broadcast-style writing is also essential, with a strong understanding of english and grammar. A broadcast-quality voice is required, although further training will be given.

There are also some opportunities to produce you own video content, which may include reports and photos, so experience and/or training in video and stills camera work is also desirable.

This role includes occasional evening and weekend work
